After having remained the same in 2018 from the previous edition, the ski jumping program added an additional event, the mixed team normal hill, for which each nation entered two men and two women in the competition. Aside from this, the men’s individual normal and large hills, men’s team large hill, and women’s individual normal hill were unchanged. The events were held in the newly-built Zhiangjiakou National Ski Jumping Centre in Chongli District, 150 miles from Beijing.
Norway had been the dominant nation at the 2018 PyeongChang Games, having taken five of the twelve available medals and half of the gold. Germany had been runner-up in every event except for the normal hill, which it won, while Poland had claimed the large hill individual title and the team bronze medal. The last medal, bronze in the women’s normal hill, had gone to Japan. The table in Beijing was much more diverse, with Slovenia being the most successful nation with four medals total, including victories in the women’s individual and mixed team normal hills. Both Japan, thanks to Ryōyū Kobayashi, and Austria, led by Manuel Fettner, took one silver each, with Marius Lindvik earning Norway’s lone victory by taking gold in the large hill. Germany won three medals, albeit none of the gold, with Russia, Poland, and Canada taking one of the medals each – a first Olympic podium finish in the sport for the latter nation.
