Defending Olympic champion Tom Daley of Britain had returned to Paris with a new partner, Noah Williams, but they were not the top favorites, as the Chinese duo of Lian Junjie and Yang Hao had won the three World titles since Tokyo.

In the Paris Aquatics Centre, the Chinese duo was never seriously challenged. They recorded the top score in all six of their dives. Daley and Williams were similarly consistent, recording the second score in all six dives. The Canadian duo of Rylan Wiens and Nathan Zsombor-Murray matched the British scores in the compulsory dives, but fell back to third afterwards. They held off the Mexicans and Ukrainians, both World championship medalists, who had recorded lower scores in the first dives.

Tom Daley’s silver gave him a complete set of medals, and made him the first diver with three medals in this event. Canada’s bronze medal was that country’s first on the synchronized platform.
