Biography

Jochen Herbst was a member of the East German 4x200 freestyle relay, finishing seventh at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. He swam for ASK Vorwärts Rostock and was teamed nationally with Frank Wiegand, Horst-Günter Gregor and Alfred Müller. At the 1962 Europeans Herbst won a bronze medal with the 4x200 relay. In 1963 and 1965 he won East German titles with the Rostock-relay. Herbst later married his teammate Eva Wittke and their children Sabine Herbst-Klenz and Stefan Herbst also became Olympic swimmers.
