Biography

Freestyle swimmer Andreas Schmidt was eliminated in the heats of the 400 metres freestyle at the 1976 Montréal Summer Games, and also with the West German 4x200 freestyle relay. Due to the Western bloc boycott of the 1980 Moskva Games he was unable to participate. However, in 1984 he made his second Olympic appearance at the Los Angeles Games, and with the 4x100 freestyle relay finished an unfortunate fourth.

Schmidt won two silver and three bronze medals at World Championships, and also two gold, two silver and one bronze at Europeans. All his medals came with West German relay squads, none individually.
