Mohamed Bin Abid first represented the United Arab Emirates at a major international swimming competition in 1986, when he took part in three events at the 1986 Asian Games. His next stop was the 1988 Seoul Olympics, where he took part in 10 events, the most ever for a swimmer at a single Olympics.
Four years later Bin Abid competed at the 1992 Barcelona Games, where he took part in another seven events for a total of 17. One of these was the 100 metres breaststroke, which made him one of only two Olympians, alongside Puerto Rico’s Margaret Harding, to have competed in all five swimming event types at the Olympics - freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and individual medley - although Harding did so in a single edition of the Games. In 1994, Bin Abid took part in three events at the World Championships and two at the Asian Games before retiring from active competition.
