Biography

Lynn Colella started competitive swimming at the age of 10 and her first international success came in 1971 when she won two golds and a bronze at the Pan-American Games. After her silver medal at the Olympics she placed third in both the 200m breaststroke and 200m butterfly at the 1973 World Championships. Her younger brother, Rick Colella, won four Pan-American Games gold medals and joined his sister on the 1972 Olympic team. Aided by a scholarship from the Phillips Petroleum Co., Lynn earned a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Washington, where she later pursued postgraduate studies.
