Biography

Roberto Hernández was a 400 metre specialist who made the final at Barcelona in 1992 and helped Cuba to a silver medal in the 4x400 relay. He was a gold medalist in the 400 at the 1987 Pan American Games and won a silver medal at the 1989 World Indoor Championships. He twice made the final at the World Championships, and in 1987 led Cuba to bronze in the 4x400. Hernández briefly held the world best mark for the rarely contested 300 metres and set the Cuban national record for 400 metres (44.14), a mark that stands through 2020.
