Biography

Gert Metz, the son of a master painter, later became a teacher for biology and sports in Mainz. The former sprinter participated in the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, where he qualified for the 4x100 relay final and finished sixth. In 1966 he competed at the European Championships, winning bronze with the relay. Domestically Metz won multiple West German titles, as follows: 1965 60 metres indoor; 1968 100 and 200 metres; 1969 100 and 4x100 metres; and 1971 4x100 relay. In 1971 he set two 50 metres indoor world records. His daughter Evelyn became a pentathlete.

Personal Bests: 100 – 10.0 (1970); 200 – 20.9 (1965).
