German breaststroke swimmer Anne Poleska, later the wife of German rower Jochen Urban, won the 200 metres bronze medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics, but missed the finals at Sydney in 2000 and Beijing in 2008. At the 2005 World Championships she had her greatest moment when winning the silver medal.
Poleska was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. At European Championships she won the silver medal in 2002, and two gold medals at the 2004 and 2005 European Short-Course Championships. Poleska also won two more silvers in 2003 and 2006, and two bronze medals in 2002 and 2007, all in the 200 metres breast. She also won 14 German national titles.
