Judo was very popular at the 1996 Olympic Games. It was held at the Georgia World Congress Center, right in downtown Atlanta, and adjacent to the Centennial Olympic Park and the headquarters of the CNN Television Network. Men and women competed in the same 14 events as in 1992, with seven weight classes for men and women. Japan and Korea both won eight medals in Atlanta, with Japan taking three gold to two for Korea. France also won three titles, and six medals in all, with Cuba also winning six medals.
