Fencing at the 2000 Summer Olympics

Dates 16 – 24 September 2000
Medal Events 10

The programme of 10 events remained unchanged from the 1996 Olympics. This would be the last Games before the introduction of a rotation system for team events. A record number of countries won medals and there was a best ever showing from Asian fencers who won four medals. Italy and Russia won the most gold medals with three whilst another traditional powerhouse of the sport, France, won the most medals. Valentina Vezzali of Italy was the only fencer to win two medals whilst there was a breakthrough victory for Kim Yeong-Ho of Korea who became the first Asian male Olympic gold medallist.
