Team All-Around, Women

Date19 – 21 October 1964 — 08:30-17:00
StatusOlympic
LocationTōkyō Taiikukan, Shibuya, Tokyo
Participants59 from 10 countries
FormatSix-person teams. Each gymnast to perform a compulsory and an optional exercise on all four apparatuses. Top five scores per team on each of the eight exercises count towards the team score.

The Soviet Union entered. The Soviet Union won the gold medal, which pretty much sums it up. From 1952-80, the Soviet women won the gold medal in this event every time, only missing in 1984 because of the Soviet-led boycott, and the Soviets won again in 1988, and in 1992 as the Unified Team. Czechoslovakia won the silver medal in Tokyo, as they had in Rome, this time led by individual all-around champion Věra Čáslavská. Japan won the bronze medal, surely helped by the home court advantage, as this is the only medal ever won by Japan in this event, through 2012.
