Foil fencer Gudrun Theuerkauff, wife of her teammate Jürgen Theuerkauff, placed fourth with the women’s foil team at the 1960 Roma Olympic Games. Four years later she earned the bronze medal with the team, and in 1968 and 1972 she placed fifth with the West German teams. She retired in 1968, but was recruited again for the 1972 squad. In 1964 the team was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, the highest sports award in Germany. Gudrun Theuerkauff became a sports teacher by profession.
