Biography

German fencer Gustav Casmir, uncle of later Olympic fencer Erwin Casmir and granduncle of Erwin’s son Norman Casmir, participated in the 1904 St. Louis and the 1906 Athina Olympics. In St. Louis he twice finished an unfortunate fourth, in the individual foil and the individual epée, as the only German fencer in fencing competitions. In Athina he won two silver and two gold medals in foil and sabre, also placing fifth with the German epée team.
