He was promoted to lieutenant in 1905 and, after attending the French riding school in Saumur, to cavalry captain in 1917. He was transferred to the Life Regiment on Horseback in 1928 and became a major in the army in 1931. In the same year, he was appointed chamberlain and in 1938, master of ceremonies at the royal court in 1938. Von Rosen was also acting herald at the 500th anniversary of the Swedish Parliament in 1935 and regular herald beginning in 1947.

Von Rosen competed at the 1908 and 1912 Olympic Games in fencing with the épée. His best result was a fourth place with the Swedish épée team losing on bouts in the final round. Later, he became chairman of the association for the promotion of fencing (1924–34). He was active as a member of the board of the Swedish Blue Star (SBS), a voluntary animal welfare organization (1934-38) and as a member of the council of the Church of Sweden. Von Rosen became a Knight of the Order of the Sword, commander of the Order of the North Star and of the Order of Vasa. He remained unmarried.
