Biography

Győző Mogyoróssy was initially a gymnast with DTE (Debreceni Torna Egylet) and then in 1948 joined TFSE (Testnevelési Főiskola Sport Egylet). In 1934 he won the national individual youth championship, and in 1935 as a member of the Hungarian team he won the Universiade. In 1940 and 1941 he was Hungarian champion in individual all-around. Between 1936 and 1949, he was capped 18 times. At the international level, he achieved his greatest success as a team member, placing seventh at the 1936 Berlin Olympics and third at the 1948 London Olympics.

After finishing high school Mogyoróssy studied one year at the Faculty of Law of the Royal Hungarian University of Debrecen, and another year at the Military Central Institute of Physical Education. He served during World War II and only returned home from Russian captivity in the summer of 1947. Mogyoróssy continued his studies and graduated in 1950 with a degree in physical education from the College of Physical Education, and later worked as a physical education teacher.
