Biography

At the Olympic Games in Atlanta 1996, Vasilenko won the gold medal in the team all-around final. At the 1994 World Championships in Dortmund, Vassilenko won silver with the Russian team. Three years later, he won bronze at the 1997 World Championships in Lausanne and, at the 1996 European Championships in København, he won team golds. Vassilenko later went to France and started a coaching career, but in 2019 he died from ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, aka motor neurone disease).
