Between Olympics, he helped the U.S. win the 1986 World Championship and the 1985 World Cup. Timmons left the national team in 1989 to play professional volleyball for Il Messaggero in Rome. Timmons and Karch Kiraly led Il Messaggero to the 1991 World Club Championship. He then returned to the national team to help the U.S. win a bronze medal at the 1992 Olympics.
