Biography

Maurizio Marinelli started out as a competitive swimmer, winning several Italian championships in the late 1940s and early 1950s, while swimming for AS Roma. He became interested in water polo and turned to that sport, earning a 1952 Olympic bronze medal, and winning the Italian title in 1958 with the Naples Rowing Club. He also won a bronze medal at the 1954 European Championships and a gold medal at the 1955 Mediterranean Games.
