Biography

Bruno Bianchi started competing in 1958 with the Cristoforo Colombo Genova club, then moved on to G.S. Cornigliano, Italsider Genova, Fiamme Oro, Lilion Snia Milano, and ended his career at age 43 with Cus Genova.

In 1964 Bianchi ran the 4 × 400 metre relay at the Tokyo Olympics, but the Italian team did not survive the heats. In 1965 he won a gold medal in the 4x400 relay at the Universiade, while in 1966 he earned a silver medal in the Swedish relay at the 1966 European Indoor Games. From 1964-68 he helped Italian teams improve the national record three times in the 4x400, bringing it down to 3:05.8.

Bianchi competed at the 1965 and 1967 European Cups and the 1966 European Championships. Bianchi earned 26 international caps from 1961-71. He was 1964 Italian Champion in the 400 metres, and later raced in Masters’ events, winning four gold medals at the 1979 European Championships and one at the 1979 Worlds in the 400 metres.
