Jean-Louis Ravelomanantsoa

Jean-Louis Ravelomanantsoa was the greatest ever Malagasy sprinter. He competed at three Olympics, making the finals of the 100 metres in 1968. In the 100 metres Ravelomanantsoa was world ranked #2 in 1971 and #4 in 1972. He raced in college at Westmont College in California. He won bronze medals at the 1965 All-Africa Games in the 200 metres, and at the 1970 Universiade in the 100. After the 1972 Olympics Ravelomanantsoa turned professional. His greatest pro achievement came in 1975, when he won the Australian Stawell Gift, a handicap race over 120 metres. Ravelomanantsoa became the first of only two runners to win the Stawell Gift off scratch.
