Biography

Anita Moen hails from the famous Norwegian ski municipality of Trysil. She was a decent cross-country skier in her younger years, placing 19th at Holmenkollen in 1989, aged 21. After giving birth to a daughter in May 1991, she decided to train hard to qualify for the Norwegian team, and became a member of the bronze medal winning Norwegian relay team at the 1993 World Championships. In addition, Moen won six relay silver medals at the Olympic Games or World Championships from 1994-2003, in addition to her two individual Olympic bronze medals: 1998 in 15 km classical style and 2002 in the sprint.

In 1994 she married Swiss cross country skier Giachem Guidon, and competed under the name of Moen-Guidon from 1995-99. The pair divorced, and from 2000 she again competed under her maiden name of Moen. She won 12 national cross-country championships titles from 1993-2002, won the women’s class at the Birkebeiner for five consecutive years, 1998-2002, and then ended her international career after the 2003 World Championships. She later ran the Anita Moen Ski School in her home village of Trysil together with her daughter Caroline Moen Guidon.
