The skills of Czechoslovak ice hockey player Jaromír Bünter were spotted at a young age when a trainer saw him playing on a small pond near his home. Bünter played in 280 league games where he scored 47 goals, spending most of his career with Sparta Praha. He also played in 11 matches for the Czechoslovakia national team including competing at the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Olympics. The ice hockey tournament at the Games also served as both the European and World Championships, with the Czechoslovak team finishing fifth at the Olympics, resulting in them also winning bronze at the European Championships. Bünter retired in 1967 but later worked as a trainer in addition to playing football and tennis.
