Biography

Yury Khmylyov began his hockey career in 1981 with Krylya Sovetov Moskva, playing there until 1992. With Krylya Sovetov Khmylyov won two bronzes at the Soviet Championships in 1989 and 1991. In 1992 Khmylyov joined the Buffalo Sabres, playing there until 1996. He then played one season with the NHL St. Louis Blues and one season in Switzerland with HC Fribourg-Gottéron, before finishing his career in 1998-99 in the American Hockey League with the St. John’s Maple Leafs. Internationally, besides his Olympic gold, Khmylyov was World Champion in 1986 and 1989-90 and European Champion in 1986-87 and 1989. He also won silvers at the 1987 World Championships, 1990 European Championships and 1987 Canada Cup.
