Born in Tbilisi in 1947, Georgian tennis player Teimuraz K’ak’ulia competed for the Soviet Union throughout his career. K’ak’ulia played professionally from 1968 to 1978, achieving a career-best singles ranking of #91 in the world in April 1975 and a doubles ranking of #148 in the world in March 1976. In 1968 he competed in multiple singles and doubles events at the Mexico City Olympics where tennis was played as a demonstration sport. His best performance came in the doubles where he and partner Francisco Guzmán tied for third after losing in the semi-finals. K’ak’ulia had the best performances of his career in 1973. At the start of the year he reached the doubles semi-finals at the Australian Open with Alex Metreveli, before winning three golds at the Summer Universiade in Moskva.
