In a quarter-final bout, the Italian Giuseppe Oldani was disqualified by Walker, the English referee, for continuingly holding his Canadian opponent. The Italian slid, crying, to the canvas, while his enraged supporters hurled all manner of objects at the official. Nearly an hour passed before Walker was able to leave the arena and even then he had to be escorted by a mass of American, British and South African boxers.

The final was played out between Jean Delarge of Belgium and the Argentine Héctor Méndez. Delarge controlled the fight for the first two rounds but the hard-hitting Méndez rallied in the third. The Belgian was battered around the ring but survived to the bell and was awarded the decision. The Argentine supporters were angered by the decision and began chanting the name of Méndez over and over. It took a quarter of an hour for the demonstrations to subside.
