Seychelles (SEY)

The Seychelloise National Olympic Committee was formed in 1979 and provisionally recognized at a meeting of the IOC Executive Board in Nagoya, in October 1979. Full recognition followed at the IOC session in Lake Placid on 12 February 1980. The Seychelles has competed at 10 Olympic Games, those of 1980, 1984, and from 1992 onwards. For reasons not precisely clear, the Seychelles did not compete at Seoul 1988 – possibly it boycotted the Games. The Seychelles has never competed at the Olympic Winter Games.

Its best Olympic performance came in 1992 when light-heavyweight boxer Roland Raforme won two matches to finish equal fifth of 27 in his class, and in 1996 when another boxer, Rival Cadeau, equaled that finish in the light-middleweight class. The Seychelles has never competed at the Olympic Winter Games.

A Seychellois national, Henri Dauban de Silhouette, represented Great Britain in the javelin throw at the 1924 Olympic Games.
