Description

Vanuatu became independent from France and Great Britain in 1980 and had already the New Hebrides Territorial Olympic Committee, but this organisation was under the National Olympic Committee of France. The National Olympic Committee of Vanuatu was formed in 1987 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 12 May of the same year at the IOC session in Istanbul. Vanuatu made its Olympic début in 1988 at Seoul and also competed in 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012. Vanuatu has not yet competed at the Olympic Winter Games and its athletes have not yet won a medal. In fact, none of its athletes has progressed beyond the first round of competition thus far.
