Description

Vanuatu became independent from France and Great Britain in 1980. It had already the New Hebrides Territorial Olympic Committee, but this organization was under the National Olympic Committee of France. The National Olympic Committee of Vanuatu was formed in 1987 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 12 May of the same year at the IOC session in İstanbul. Vanuatu made its Olympic début in 1988 at Seoul and also competed in 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020. Vanuatu has not yet competed at the Olympic Winter Games and its athletes have not yet won a medal, and thus far, none of its athletes has progressed beyond the first round of competition.
