To accommodate a new women’s division, this category was now for boxers weighing 47-50 kg, whereas in Tokyo the weight range was 48-51 kg. Reigning Olympic Champion Stoyka Krasteva of Bulgaria had retired following her victory in Tokyo, so there would be a new champion. China’s Wu Yu was the reigning World Champion and top seed, and was expected to win the division. This she did comfortably, defeating the current World Champion at light-flyweight, Nikhat Zareen of India, in round two by a unanimous decision.

Wu then had a unanimous decision against Thailand’s Chuthamat Raksat in the quarter-finals, and a split 4-1 decision against Kazakh Nazym Kyzaibay in the semi-final. Wu’s opponent in the final was Turk Buse Naz Çakıroğlu, silver medalist from 2020, who also settled for the silver medal in Paris, as Wu won the final by a split 4-1 decision. The other losing semi-finalist was Filipino Aira Villegas, whose only previous international success had been as a bronze medalist at the 2019 Southeast Asia Games.
