FormatThree-man teams. FITA Ranking Round (scores carried over from the individual event), followed by elimination rounds. Elimination rounds consisted of 108 arrows, 27 at each distance, 36 per archer, 9 per archer at each distance.

This was the first men’s Olympic team championship since 1920, but team titles had been contested at the World Championships since 1937. The United States won every World Championship from 1959-83, but Korea won in 1985 and Germany triumphed in 1987. The 1988 Olympic championship came down to Korea against the United States with Korea pulling away over the 90 metre distance. Great Britain won a surprising bronze medal.
