Biography

Jasna Fazlić-Reed competed in singles and doubles table tennis at the 1988, 1992, 2000, and 2004 Olympic Games. She represented Yugoslavia in 1988, was an Independent Olympic Participant in 1992, and then represented her new nation, the United States, in 2000 and 2004.

Born Jasna Fazlić, she married Ilija Lupulesku in 1992, who was a five-time Olympian in table tennis, but they divorced in 1997. After the divorce Fazlić-Reed moved to Japan initially, but then settled in the United States where she changed her name to Reed. In 2009 she re-married, to William Rather, and took the name Jasna Rather.

The highlight of Fazlić-Reed’s Olympic career was the bronze medal she won in doubles in 1988 with Gordana Perkucin. They also competed together in 1992 but failed to make the knockout stage. Fazlić-Reed was 1988 and 1992 European Champion in doubles with Perkucin. In the United States she was National Champion in singles in 2003 and 2005 and won a doubles gold medal at the 2003 Pan American Games.

In 2006 Fazlić-Reed became the head table tennis coach at Texas Wesleyan University. She was inducted into the USA Table Tennis Hall of Fame in December 2011.
