Bret Hudson had a promising start to his career when he was named Australia’s Junior Male Gymnast of the Year in 1991. In the same year Hudson made his début for Australia at the Gymnastics World Championships, making five more appearances at the World Championships during the 1990s. At the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Hudson won an individual gold in the vault and a silver in the team competition.
Two years after the Commonwealth Games Hudson competed at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics where he finished in 51st place in the individual all-round. At the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur he won a team silver along with individual bronze in the parallel bars and the vault. Hudson was later inducted into Gymnastics Australia Hall of Fame.
