Biography

With Kyösti Laasonen who was his coach, Tomi Poikolainen has been one of the most successful Finnish archers. Poikolainen won an Olympic gold in 1980 and silver in 1992. At the 1980 Olympics, Poikolainen became the youngest Finnish Summer Olympic gold medalist, at only 18 years, 7 month and six days old. Poikolainen never won a world title, but won two team silvers in 1981 and 1991 and an individual bronze in 1989 at the World Championships. Poikolainen was much more successful at the European Championships, winning the individual title in 1986 and team title in 1994. He also won two team silvers (1978, 1986) and individual and team bronzes in 1982 and 1988.
