Biography

Christiane Pielke, a West German swimmer, placed fifth in the 200 metres individual medley at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. With the 4x100 freestyle relay she won the bronze medal. Four years later at Seoul, she placed seventh with the relay and tenth overall as the runner-up in the 50 metres freestyle B-final. In the 100 metres she was eliminated in the heats.

At the European Championships Pielke won a silver medal with the freestyle relay in 1985 and three more bronze medals over 50 metres freestyle, and with both the 4x100 freestyle and the 4x100 medley relays.

Nationally, Pielke won the 50 metres titles in 1987 and 1988, and the 100 metres in 1988. Her sister Martina was also a competitive swimmer, as were their parents. Christiane later became a sports teacher.
