Biography

István Mudin was a teacher in Budapest who specialized in heavy weight throwing. He competed at the 1906 and 1908 Olympics in multiple events, winning a silver and a bronze medal. His brother, Imre, was also a weight thrower who competed at the 1908 and 1912 Olympics.

In 1915 Mudin was commissioned into the 101st Infantry Reserve. He won numerous awards, including a silver medal for bravery, first class, in 1915; the bronze medal with swords in 1917; the silver medal with swords in 1917; and the Military Cross of Merit III Class in 1918. Mudin was killed in action in Italy in July 1918. His brother was killed by a sniper only 3 months later. In the brothers’ honor, a sports hall in Kétegyháza was named for them in 2008.
