Biography

A 2-metre forward, Gennady Volnov played most of his basketball career for CSKA Moskva, after starting out with Moskva Burevestnik. He was one of the most titled players in European basketball. With CSKA Moskva he won three European Club titles – 1963, 1969, and 1971 – and 10 Soviet club titles. He is one of only two men (with Sergey Belov) to have won four Olympic baskeball medals, topped by the 1972 gold. He also played on teams that won the European title six times (1959, 1961, 1963, 1965, 1967, and 1969), as well as helping the Soviet team to the 1967 World Championship.
