The 1988 weightlifting competition took place at the Ol-lim-pik Gong-won, or Olympic Weightlifting Gymnasium, which was specially constructed for the Seoul Olympics between August 1984 and April 1986, and later became a musical theatre. The 1988 Olympic weightlifting program was the same as it had been in 1980-84, with 10 events for men only.
