The women’s team event featured sixteen NOCs, each with three players. The initial half of the total quota was awarded to the quarter-finalists at the 2024 ITTF World Teams Championships, while six continental qualification tournaments offered places each to the top-ranked NOC from each respective continent. Apart from the host nation France, the remaining slot was attributed to the highest-ranked eligible NOC based on the ITTF World Team Ranking list of March 2024.

China continued their dominance in the event, securing their fifth consecutive gold medal with a 3-0 victory over Japan, marking China’s historic 300th Olympic gold medal. Second seed Japan took home the silver, while the third seed Korea Republic won the bronze, marking their first medal in the team event since 2008. Surprisingly, Romania, the fourth seed, lost their opening match to India and finished only ninth.

China had the same line-up as in Tokyo, including Chen Meng and Sun Yingsha, the finalists in the singles, and Wang Manyu, ranked third in the world. Asia’s dominance was even greater than in the men’s event. Six of the seven Asian teams advanced from the first round, accompanied only by Germany and Sweden from Europe.
