Czechia’s Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková were the defending champions from 2021, but lost in the quarter-final to the Individual Neutral Athletes’ Mirra Andreyeva and Diana Shnayder. Andreyeva went on to become the second youngest player to win an Olympic tennis medal, at the age of 17 years and 97 days, (after Jennifer Capriati, who won Olympic gold at the women’s singles event in 1992, at the age of 16 years and 132 days). The 2024 top seeds were the US American pair of Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, but they were eliminated in the second round by Czechia’s Karolína Muchová and Linda Nosková.

In the final, Andreyeva and Shnayder lost to Italy’s Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini. It was Italy’s first Olympic gold medal in tennis, and Errani completed the career Golden Slam, becoming the seventh woman to do so, after the Williams sisters (Serena and Venus), Pam Shriver, Gigi Fernandez, Barbora Krejčíková, and Kateřina Siniaková. At the age of 37, Errani became the oldest player to win an Olympic tennis gold medal.

In the bronze medal match, Spain’s Cristina Bucșa and Sara Sorribes defeated Czechia’s Karolína Muchová and Linda Nosková. It was Spain’s first Olympic medal in women’s tennis since 2008.
