The first 60 finishers in the sprint event one day earlier qualified for the pursuit. Defending champion Martin Fourcade again won the gold medal, followed by the surprising silver medalist Sebastian Samuelsson from Sweden. Third was Benedikt Doll from Germany. Both rose up from 14th and sixth place in the sprint event. The sprint gold medalist Arnd Peiffer came in eighth. None of the competitors hit all their targets in the pursuit event. Again the race was influenced by heavy winds and very cold temperatures of about -10º C.
