Biography

Gudrun Beckmann was a West German swimmer who won two bronze medals in both relays at the 1972 home Olympics. She also finished seventh in the 100 m butterfly. Four years later, in Montréal, she was eliminated in the heats in all those events, with the West German medley relay squad being disqualified in the heats. At the 1973 Belgrade World Championships, she also won two relay bronze medals. In 1977, Beckmann reached her peak at the Summer Universiade, winning silver in the 100 m butterfly. From 1973-75, and in 1977, she won the national 100 m butterfly title.

Beckmann was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf in 1972, the highest German sports award. She later became a graduated teacher.
