Biography

A former national under-20 foil champion, London University medical student Mike Breckin went to the 1967 World Fencing Championships at Montréal, and the following year competed at the Mexico Olympics. Breckin won his only senior national title in 1969, and the following year enjoyed the finest moment of his career by winning both the individual and team foil gold medals at the Edinburgh British Empire and Commonwealth Games. A second World Championship appearance followed for Breckin at Wien (Vienna) in 1971 and in 1973 he reached the foil semi-final at the World Student Games in Moskva (Moscow).
