All-round gymnast Karin Lindberg won medals at the Olympics, World Championships, and the national championships in her native Sweden. Lindberg competed in her first competition in 1947 before being selected to represent her country at the 1948 London Olympics. She was just 19-years-old at the Games and just missed out on a medal after Sweden finished fourth in the all-round team event. Two years later she won gold in the same event at the World Championships in Basel.
In 1952 Lindberg competed at the Helsinki Olympics where she won gold in the team portable apparatus, in addition to finishing fourth in the all-round team event, and tying for seventh in vault. That same year she won gold at the Swedish Championships and was named the Sportswoman of the Year. Lindberg retained her Swedish title in 1953 and won a team bronze at the 1954 World Championships in Roma.
Looking to compete at a third Olympics, Lindberg took part in a tour of the United States in 1955. During her time in the US, however, she was hit by a car, which required a month-long stay in hospital due to a fractured pelvis. Despite this, she made a full recovery and was able to compete at the national championships in 1956 and earned a place on the Olympic team for the Melbourne Games. In Australia she won silver in the team portable apparatus, in addition to placing eighth in the all-round team event. Back in Stockholm, Lindberg was one of the two final torch bearers within the stadium for the equestrian events that could not be held in Australia due to strict quarantine rules.
Following her retirement Lindberg worked for Sveriges Radio, where she hosted the gymnastics programme on the show Morgonpasset for almost two decades. She was also a lecturer at Örebro University and was the chair of the Örebro County Gymnastics Association from 1983 to 1991.
