Andrea Lucchetta

One of the iconic Italian volleyball players of the 1980s and 1990s, Andrea Lucchetta was captain of the first Italian team to win the World Volleyball Championship at Rio de Janerio in 1990. He was also voted the Player of the Tournament.

At club level, he made his début in the top league with Modena in 1981 and spent a total of 11 years with them in two spells between 1981-90 and 1998-2000. Lucchetta also played for Milano (1990-94), Cuneo (1994-97), and Roma for the 1997/98 season. He won four League titles in a row with Modena. He also won five Italian Cups, one Super Cup, one European Champions Cup (1990 with Modena), three Cup Winners’ Cups, four CEV Cups, one European Super Cup and two World Championship Club titles with Milano. Internationally, Lucchetta won 292 Italian caps between 1982-92. In addition to the 1990 World Championship, he won a European title (1989), three consecutive World League, two Mediterranean Games, one Goodwill Games and the bronze medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

After ending his playing days, Lucchetta founded a volleyball school for youngsters and, at the same time, worked on radio and television. Since the 2010s he has been the technical collaborator of RAI (Italian public television) for matches in the Italian championship.
