Biography

Walter Delle Karth was an Austrian bobsledder participating in three editions of the Winter Olympics: Sapporo 1972, Lake Placid 1980, and Sarajevo 1984. He placed seventh, fifth and tenth respectively, all with the Austrian four-men bob. Additionally Karth competed in the two-men bob partnering Hans Lindner in 1984, and finished 12th.

With the four-men bob, Karth won the silver medal at the 1973 World Championships and a bronze medal the following year. He also added three bronze medals at the Europeans: With the four-men bob in 1972 and 1982, and the two-men bob in1973.

Walter’s brothers Dieter and Werner all became Olympic bobsleigh exponents while his nephew Nico became an Olympic sailor. Walter’s father, Walter Delle Karth, was a Nordic combined competitor at the 1936 Garmisch Winter Olympics. By profession, Walter, Jr. became a journalist and freelance press officer, among others he did public relations for Hermann Maier.
