Biography

Stefan Holm was a Swedish high jumper who won gold at the 2004 Athina Olympics. He also competed at the 2000 and 2008 Olympics, just missing medals by placing fourth both times. Holm was a four-time World Indoor Champion, winning in 2001, 2003-04, and 2008. He was a finalist at the World Championships five times (1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007), winning silver in 2003. Holm won the European Indoors in 2005 and 2007, adding a silver in 2002. At the outdoor European Championships, he won silver in 2002 and bronze in 2006.

Holm was only 1.80 m (5-11) tall and with his personal best of 2.40 m, he holds the world best for the highest clearance above one’s head (59 cm) with Franklin Jacobs (USA) (as of 2023).

Holm carried the Swedish flag at the Closing Ceremony of the 2004 Athina Olympics. In 2013 he was made an Athlete Member of the International Olympic Committee.
