With world record holder and multiple AAA champion Peter O’Connor absent, Meyer Prinstein was the favorite, but he had recently been beaten by Dan Frank at the Metropolitan AAU meet. An expected battle between the two never really materialized, however, as Prinstein led throughout and stretched his lead by posting his winning mark in the final round. This gave him the long jump gold medal which he thought he deserved four years earlier in Paris.
