Date6 – 7 July 1924
StatusOlympic
LocationStade Olympique de Colombes, Colombes
Participants23 from 13 countries

Morgan Taylor had won the 1924 AAU title and the US Olympic Trials, the latter in a world record 52.6, though it was not ratified as he knocked over a hurdle. The final saw him take the lead at the halfway mark and pull away to win by six metres over teammate Charles Brookins. But Brookins was disqualified for running out of his lane, giving the silver medal to Finland’s Erik “Erkka” Wilén. Taylor’s time was 52.6, again seemingly a world record, but he had knocked over the last hurdle so it could not be ratified, and the Olympic record then reverted to Wilén’s 53.8, though he originally only finished third in the race. Fourth-place finisher Géo André was competing in his fourth Olympics, 16 years after his Olympic début.
