Boxing at the 1968 Summer Olympics

Dates 13 – 26 October 1968
Medal Events 11

The 1968 Olympic boxing program was expanded by the addition of a light-flyweight class with a weight limit of 48 kg. The boxing tournament was contested in the Arena México, formerly known as the Arena Modelo. The Arena Modelo had been built in 1956 on the site of a previous smaller arena. Both were popular sites for professional boxing and wrestling matches. Seating 16,000 at capacity, Arena México still exists and is still used for occasional major bouts. Seven nations won gold medals in 1968, led by the Soviet Union with three, and the United States and the host Mexicans with two each.
