Rope climbing has been contested only at the 1896, 1904, 1906, 1924, and 1932 Olympics. The 1924 event was scored first on style points, but 22 athletes were awarded perfect 10s, so the time to complete the rope climb was used to break ties. The gold medal went to Czechoslovakian Bedřich Šupčík, who finished in 7.2 seconds, with the silver going to Albert Séguin (FRA), who completed the climb in 7.4 seconds. Two bronze medals were awarded as Swiss August Güttinger and Czechoslovak Ladislav Vácha finished in 7.8 seconds.
